Commit to a Girl

When you donate to Girl Scouts, Central Savannah River Council you are making a commitment to providing quality Girl Scout programming for the girls in this area.

Our success is well documented. For ninety-two years, more than fifty million women have benefited from Girl Scouting: (See Famous Former Girl Scouts) Opera star, Jessye Norman and astronaut, Susan Still were both Girl Scouts here in the CSRA. In fact, 64% of today's women leaders in the United States (civic, corporate, political, etc.) were Girl Scouts and 82% of high-achieving alumnae believe Girl Scouts influenced their success.

Why is Commit To A Girl important?

Statistics reflect some tough realities for the young women of the CSRA.

  • South Carolina and Georgia teen pregnancy rates are among the highest in the nation.
  • Educational achievement hovers below national norms.
  • There are large numbers of single parent families and families in poverty.
  • The influence of popular culture and friends places stressful, unrealistic demands for appearance and behavior.

All of these circumstances put a strain on young people and young women and girls in particular.

Girl Scouts helps girls meet these challenges. Through cutting-edge programs, caring mentors and strong positive friendships, girls gain the values, self-esteem and skills they need to avoid unhealthy behaviors and make responsible decisions. In study after study, it's clear that girls involved in Girl Scouts are more likely to lead healthy, successful lives as they develop:

  • Self competence
  • Social skills
  • Respect for others
  • Feelings of belonging
  • Strong values
  • Concern for community
  • Teamwork
  • Leadership

When caring adults contribute to Commit To A Girl, they help fulfill the dream of making Girl Scouting available to every girl who wants to join.
