New Adventures for today's teens

STUDIO 2B was designed by girls for girls. It wraps the basic values of Girl Scouting in a contemporary package designed to capture the interests of girls ages 11-17.

The motto; Become, Belong, Believe and Build; reflects the traditional Girl Scout program goals grounded in the Girl Scout Promise and Law. It is presented through contemporary looking magazines, web sites and activity packets designed to appeal to teenage girls.

In STUDIO 2B, girls determine the structure and focus of their group. Resources include a series of STUDIO 2B Focus Books that provide information on a variety of issues. Girls earn charms for each focus area they complete. Charms can be worn on a bracelet, necklace or hung on a key ring or backpack.

Through STUDIO 2B we hope to bring Girl Scouting to increasing numbers of girls who need the values, friendships, adventures, and self-confidence that Girl Scouts offers.

STUDIO 2B is not a substitute for current Cadette and Senior Girl Scout programs, but an alternative. Troops and groups may work entirely in the Cadette and Senior Girl Scout programs, combine elements of the STUDIO 2B program into their activities, or may work entirely in STUDIO 2B programming. http://www.studio2b.org

STUDIO 2B destinations

STUDIO 2B destinations is a wonderful program that gives girls ages 11-17 the opportunity to travel to a variety of destinations and experience a wide variety of adventures. STUDIO 2B destinations is the new term for what used to be called Wider Ops.

In September, each registered Girl Scout age 11-17 receives a postcard notifying them of the information, the Web site and the opportunities available for this year's STUDIO 2B destinations. On recent Wider Op, two Central Savannah River Girl Scouts traveled to Los Angeles to film music videos. Others went hiking and sailing in Maine, canoeing in Michigan and scuba diving in the Great Lakes. Wherever girls interests lie, adventures abound in STUDIO 2B destinations.

Details on 2004 trips are available online at the STUDIO 2B web site within the ESCAPE section. In addition to information on national and international destination choices, the Web site will contain travel information, application and reference forms and tips on writing essays and choosing personal references.

Two big changes girls should note:

1. THERE WILL BE NO EVENT BOOKLET -- all information is online
2. There will be no interview at the council level. Girls will apply directly to their program of interest.

Information on this new program has just been released. Contact Sara Geist-Sirk, Adult Development Manager, at the service center if you have questions we have not addressed here.
